Sleep Apnea is a common sleep disorder that occurs when there is a partial or complete blockage of the airway in the throat. This is caused when the tongue and soft tissues in the throat relax too much at bedtime or when fatty deposits due to weight problems narrow or sometimes shut down the airway completely.
If you suffer from sleep apnea you will frequently stop breathing while you sleep, then after periods of not breathing the brain will wake up and breathing will resume.
